Daybook entry #9

Outside my window ... not today, but recently.
Today is equally cold, but regretfully no snow.

From the kitchen ... a birthday cake for my now 10-year-old blossie. She requested a Beanie Kid cake. Thankfully daughter #1 rose to the challenge and produced this masterpiece for her sister!
For those uneducated in BK mania, Beanie Kids are little teddy bears, unique to the Australian market I think. New designs are released each month, in every theme you can imagine. They are inexpensive, addictive and very collectible.

I am stitching ... blocks for a new quilt using the lovely Figtree Quilts 'Strawberry Fields'.
I am reading ... the last couple of chapters of 'The Help'. I have been searching for some time for 'that book you just can't put down'. I found it in this book. It is the story of black maids working for white housewives in 1960's America. It is at once heartwarming and infuriating! A wonderful read.

I am inspired by ... a creative website that I came across during the week, Dear Photograph. The site invites you to take a photograph of a picture from the past matching it to the same place in the present. A very cool concept!

I am listening to ... a beautiful song by a young Aussie songwriter, Jamie MacDowell, written for his sister and played at her wedding. I bet there wasn't a dry eye in the house!

Have a great weekend. Bloom x

  2. I recently finished The Help too. Our library has audio books that can be downloaded to an IPod. I listen while I walk, knit, sew and occasionaly while I do housework. The Help was fun to listen to while I walked. I am listening to The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks now. Very good.

I read The Help, and listened to it too. The audio is even more awesome. The movie is going to be out soon!

  4. How fun! I heart snow...it's great to hear about quilting around the world, glad to hear someone has cool weather, we're having record highs here on the east coast USA. 106 today, and heat index values to 115. Yipes! Love "The Help" also, and your blog! I love to see it pop up in my reader, you always give me lots of inipiration!

I read 'The Help' last year and couldn't put it down. I agree that it was both heartwarming and infuriating.

  8. That snow looks SO refreshing. I am a winter gal and here in Michigan, USA it has unbearably hot and humid...not a summer gal at all! Thanks for the read suggestion; I am always open to a new book!

  11. I am looking forward to snow. I like the cold.

I am reading that book too. The movie is coming out August 10th. I wonder if it will be any good. Movies often don't measure up. Eat Pray Love was a fantastic book that they put into a movie. I still have not seen it.

  12. I recently finished "The Help" myself. I could NOT put it down and was so sad when it ended. I felt like I had to say goodbye to some dear friends that I would never see again.
Can't wait for the movie to come out in August. I'll the first in line!
