First day back at school and my boy lasted 3 hours. It seems recovery from appendictis is a slow process. He had his appendix removed three weeks ago, and is still occasionally doubled over in pain. The pain lasts for a half hour or so, and then subsides, after a dose of Panadol or Nurofen. Any advice?
Between times, I am sneaking in just a little bit of feltwork. This is a needlecase, purchased recently, and designed by Diane Leftwich. It is called 'Bluebirds in the Hedgerow'. The bluebirds are yet to make an appearance!

ReplyDelete3 weeks? You may want to take him in, just to be safe. I had mine out when I was in 6th grade, it burst, and was in the hospital for 2 weeks - then another month at home to recover, but I didn't really want to go back to school so I prolonged it. I also refused to get out of bed in the hospital and my abdominal muscles got all kinked up.
ReplyDeleteDoes he have any nausea or fever with the pain? If so, get him in immediately. If not, then I'd just schedule a visit, to make sure everything's progressing like it should. I hope he feels better soon!
Feltwork is looking lovely - I'm trying some but it is quite clumsy!!

Yep, I'd be getting him checked... just to be on the safe side. However, having said that I had my appendix out when I was 14 and it took me almost a term until I was properly back to my usual vigour. How old is he?

ReplyDeletedid they hit a nerve in surgery? I'm so sorry he's still in pain and this is probably something the doctor should know about-unless this was told to be expected.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Allie, go to the docs again... infection can still be there... and you can take panadol then two hours later take some Nurefin and then 3 hours later take Panadol and repeat this every 3 hours

Hi there if your boy only needs panadol occassionally then prob will be ok, depending on other symptoms, does he have a temp above 37.5, is pain after eating/ pooping? Is his belly swollen? any nausea/ vomiting? Any of these should be investigated post bowel surgey. Also if he is needing regular analgesia then take him to the gp, he should not need the paracetamol/nurofen every 4 hours.

Gosh that does sound like somehing is not quiet right... Poor baby - I hope everything is okay.... Love the felt work - I have a huge stack of felt just looking at me and begging me to cut into it - Maybe this weekend fingers crossed :)
ReplyDeleteI'd have your son checked out to be safe, you don't know, it could be a stitch out or something. My son was 24 but he recovered much faster.

Go back to the hospital with him. He should not be in such pain after 3 weeks, something is not right.

Hello.. I had my appendix removed and when they were in there they snipped a nerve and I had horrible pain for 4 weeks until they finally looked closer at the xray ( this is after going to the emergency room and DR office three times... they did a nerve block and then put me on Lyrica for 5 days..... Might be an option to look into!
