His wounds have paid my ransom

Good Friday at our house means homemade hot cross buns & an easter egg hunt in the garden with the cousins.
But Good Friday is also a time for our family to reflect on Jesus - who he was, what he did and why. This song by Stuart Townend sums it all up for me. (You can listen to this by clicking on the play button below).
How deep the Father's love for us,
How vast beyond all measure
That He should give His only Son
To make a wretch His treasure
How great the pain of searing loss,
The Father turns His face away
As wounds which mar the chosen One,
Bring many sons to glory
Behold the Man upon a cross,
My sin upon His shoulders
Ashamed I hear my mocking voice,
Call out among the scoffers
It was my sin that held Him there
Until it was accomplished
His dying breath has brought me life
I know that it is finished
I will not boast in anything
No gifts, no power, no wisdom
But I will boast in Jesus Christ
His death and resurrection
Why should I gain from His reward?
I cannot give an answer
But this I know with all my heart
His wounds have paid my ransom
I'd love to hear what answers you've found to the 'Jesus question'(be they similar to mine or not), or how you spend Easter at your place. A very happy Easter to you all. Best wishes, Bloom.

  1. I really enjoy reading your blog and this is the first time I've plucked up the courage to write a comment.

Easter for us is also a time of reflection and thought! It is so lovely to see comments from others who have not forgotten the true meaning of this special celebration!! It is so easy to get caught up in the "commercial" side of Easter.

Nice to see someone else who trys to keep a balance!! The eggs and buns and presents are for our family not just a reminder of new life in nature but also of the new life Jesus gave us by making the ultimate sacrifice!!

Blessings and love to you and your family! May God be with you.

  2. Hi Ros
This song is one of my favourites. We spent the morning at our Church, we reflected about the Easter message through scriptures, songs & dvd presentations. We had lunch with our extended family too (which is always a laugh). Blessings to you & yours this Easter & always.

  3. Thanks for sharing that Ros. The church we attend at the moment does not have any special Easter services and after reading the last couple of comments it made me realise how much I miss that from previous years.
So today hubby was off work (rare that we have days off together LOL) but he was working around the house. So I got a stitchery finished while watching an Andre Rieu DVD I got for christmas that I hadn't watched, did some sewing on my mums quilt, then tonight DH & I went to the movies and out to dinner. A very nice relaxing day without work!
    Don't eat too much choccy!!!

  10. Jesus humbled Himself to leave the glory of heaven, for the earthliness of the manger...He walked steadtastly and obediently from the manger to the cross where He died to satisfy the Justice of God which says that the soul than sins will die, and all are sinners. But also the love of God who loved the world so much that He gave His only beloved son that all who believe in Him, His death in their place, shall not perish but have everlasting life.
He is my Lord, my Saviour, My Master, Redeemer......I will also answer with a song.
    Verse 1
    Before the world began,
    You were on his mind.
    And every tear you cry,
    Is precious in his eyes.
    Because of his great love,
    He gave His only Son.
Everything was done so you would come.

    Chorus
    Come to the Father,
    though your gift is small.
    Broken hearts, broken lives,
    He will take them all.
    The power of the word,
    the power of His blood.
Everything was done so you would come.

    Verse 2
    Nothing you can do,
Could make Him love you more.
    And nothing that you've done,
Could make Him close the door.
    Because of His great love,
    He gave His only Son.
Everything was done so you would come.
